Back when I had my first baby girl, I never imagined that some day, my two oldest girls would turn the walls of their room into a pink bulletin board.

Yup, they just pin up their artwork, posters and school honors all over that wall.

I realized pretty quickly that this was their space and although I can make attempts to keep it somewhat neat, it will never look like this…

But still, I was unprepared when my daughter Dylan said to me… “We want to turn our room into a lounge.”

A lounge?! For an 8 and 10 year old?

But to clear up any confusion, my daughter Dylan drew me a sketch…

In case you have more pressing matters than deciphering 4th grade handwriting, let me do a recap for you. They are moving the beds to make room for the lounge area.

Which includes a couch, a swing chair and a beanbag chair.

The beanbag chair is clearly the focal point of the room.

There was no mention of feng sui.

I think it’s bring your own cocktails.

And yes, we are actually considering letting them do this. (Minus the couch.)

In case you missed me out and about on the internet, I wrote this post on dog anxiety for Alpha Mom

And this post for Lifetime Moms on the belly binder trend. Yes, corsets are in vogue!

As a mom of three grown children (how the f@$k did that happen??) I can tell you this from experience, letting your children keep their bedrooms the way THEY want and not how YOU want will be a happy memory they will always have. As much as it drove me crazy, I let my daughter do what she wanted with her room, including using scotch tape to put pictures of bands and teen stars she liked on her ceiling, and painting one side of her door with a huge LA Lakers basketball, with mini basketballs as a border, and the other side painted white with handwritten song lyrics on it, done by her and her friends. She’s 26 now, and though we’ve since moved from that house, we took the door with us and it hangs in our new house. From a decorator’s point of view it looks horrible. To us, it’s beautiful!

I love to hear this! I am such a control freak and I think I’ll try to lighten up more. My boys share a room and I think I should let them have more say in how it looks… provided I can walk in there!

Wait till they want to paint the room, themselves!
My son’s room has been blue, tequila sunrise orange, and now green!!
