So I finally breastfed Chase and Harlowe at the same time…

Ok, that’s not me. This is Julie Bowen from “Modern Family” nursing her real life twins. But believe me, it kind of looks like that.

On Sunday, we temporarily broke up the Chase and Harlowe duo known as “Charlowe.” Only my husband calls them that but he’s really trying to make it stick.

We got the go ahead to bring Chase home from the NICU. As soon as we pulled out of the driveway to head to the hospital, Rick says, “Don’t we need to bring an outfit or something to put him in?”

Oh right.

We pulled back in the driveway and ran inside to get a onesie.

And then when we got to the hospital, we completely forgot to bring the car seat inside.

Apparently, being on our 3rd and 4th kids, does not mean we actually know what we’re doing.

But we finally got it together and brought Chase home.

I hated leaving Harlowe there. I started crying when it was time to go. I was either sobbing because I missed Harlowe or because the nurse wasn’t coming home with us or maybe a combo. But Harlowe really seemed OK. Girlfriend just needs a little more time to grow.

And suddenly 5 year-old Dylan just seems like such a big kid…

52 Responses to welcome home chase. we’ve been waiting for you.

  • For a brief moment there I thought that first photo could actually be you and Charlowe. I’m all for the merging of names for expediency’s sake. I generally refer to you as MBD, Richard and Judy as Rudy, Bill and Hillary as Billary and so on. It makes total sense.

Wow Kelcey, they are beaUTIFUL and Dylan makes a great big sis! Really great pics…congrats again! As for the nurse going home with you…try bribery! Starbucks may get her on your side ;)

  • Crystal says:

WELCOME HOME, CHASE!!! Of COURSE Harlowe needs a litle more time…she’s being pampered in the NICU, when she comes home, she’ll be one of 3 girls in the house and then there’ll be no more pampering…she’s pulling the sympathy card early – watch out for that one! I just kidding! Your babies are BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • Cherie says:

After reading the blog and all the comments I am still cracking up about the fake charlowe nursing picture – a real laugh out loud! you are a trooper! Let the fun begin.
    The kids look amazing!

    Welcome home Chase.

I’ve been seeing twins everywhere. And of course, I have to approach them “My friend in NYC just had twins…” What is wrong with me? I’m so enjoying your journey.

  • Cute picture! How big is Chase now?

And you know girls…they’re never ready on time. Would you believe…out of 6 kids, it was the 3 girls were the ones who ran late as far as being born was concerned?

Oh, and Charlowe is a great idea!

  • Wendi says:

I absolutely love the pic of Dylan holding Chase – who needs nurses when you’ve got big sisters ;)

  • Chris says:

Congratulations on getting one baby home. I don’t even know your family, but Harlowe looks like Dylan to me. Sweet pics. Enjoy this time.

  • Jordana says:

OMG – Charlowe – I LOVE IT!! Rick, I’m so on-board. I’m glad I’m not the only one obsessed with seeing the tandem nursing.

  • Oh Kelcey, thank God that wasn’t a real boob shot. Don’t know why I got so squeamish, I mean I did it myself, but somehow I felt I didn’t know you well enough to see your nipples. Call me crazy.

SSOOOOOOO happy that Chase is home! Congratulations!

  • Those babies could NOT be more adorable! How bittersweet to bring one home and leave one there. Easing you out of post C-section land and into double baby duty slowly, yes. But not, I know, how you planned it. She looks amazing tho, and soon she’ll be home and this will be but a blip in her baby book!

  • Betsy says:

If you name them Charlowe, I think you will have to start dressing them in those cute matching boy-girl outfits.

  • Nancy Walton says:

Someone beat me to the comment that Harlowe looks like Dylan. Both babies are adorable and both look like their big sisters and their mom & dad, of course. Fabulous photos; thanks for keeping us up to date!

  • Sara says:

I’m sure leaving Harlowe was horrible, but you’re a rock star and she’ll be home soon. Chase is SO handsome. Hang in there mama… it’s been crazy but ALL of your kids are ridiculously lucky to have you as their mama!!!
    xoxo

  • MommyTime says:

Congratulations on getting the first one home. I hope you are all getting some sleep. Sending hugs, and good thoughts for Harlowe’s speedy growth.

  • Harlowe just called. She said if you need her she will be in getting her seaweed wrap massage and pedicure. Oh and to remind you to bring the boob buy after her nap- she might be in the mood to nosh then.
    Kthxbai.

Oh, what beautiful pics Kelcey! I can’t wait to see more pics of the twins, and big girls holding them:> Yeah, our 5 year olds are like giants compared to newborns. I have a friend whose friend is married to Julie Bowen, hence the dad of those twins. I wonder if she’s embarrassed for her?

  • Aunt Marcia (Guess Whose?) says:

Thanks for the front face shots; great looking babies…If you get a ‘nanny’…make sure you have plenty of cameras hidden all around. If you want details…call me.

  • He is adorable. And she’ll be following soon behind. She’ll probably wind up the leader of that duo since she’ll be all, “yeah, when I spent those extra days in the NICU, I picked up some street smarts you never got.”

  • I didn’t nurse my twins (please don’t judge – I had a very bad experience the first time around and highly doubted my “trickle” could accommodate a double shift) – BUT I have seen other twin moms do it and that is one hell of an accomplishment!

  • Valerie says:

Kelcey, I agree you are a rock star, and that those babies are incredibly adorable and so lucky to have you as their mama bird! By the way, I am bringing this picture of Dylan to my hair colorist so she can color my hair that exact shade.

  • Kristin says:

So happy Chase is home. At least you remembered the infant car seat! That’s something. Love to all of you. Dylan looks so proud.

  • Gorgeous.

Must be so hard for you leaving one at the hospital – but think of it this way – you’re getting eased back in to the newborn baby thing. Soon you’ll have two, so one at a time must be a little bit of a blessing!

  • scrappysue says:

ooooooooo – she’s so teeny, but they’re both looking so good! at least you didn’t leave your kid at someone else’s house. i never did that. twice.

  • ~Laura says:

Yay! Chase is home. That is a huge step. I am so sorry that Harlowe couldn’t come with him. But, she’ll be home shortly.

You get the mom of twins award for the double breastfeeding trick! It is not an easy feat!

  • Oz says:

That picture. Wow. That’s some serious breastfeeding action.

Welcome home, Chase, and come home soon, Harlowe!
