The other night I gave the twins a bath and when I came downstairs, Dylan and Summer were gleefully jumping up and down. They were very excited because they had made something for me.

“Where is it?” I ask.

“In the fridge! In the fridge!”

And they pull this out….

Here, let me give you a closer look….

My first thought: What the f*ck is that?!

Second thought: How long was I upstairs?!

Third thought: That is so sweet of my girls to make that for me. Oh please don’t make me eat it.

“It’s dessert for you!!! We made it all by ourselves. Try it!! Now!!!”

“But shouldn’t I wait until I have dinner?”

“No! Try it now!” they cheerfully exclaim.


“It’s good,” I say. You know, if you’re into weird, soggy, mysterious stuff in a bowl.

“Just don’t eat all of it because it’s for daddy too,” they explain.

“No problem.”

So in case any of you want the recipe…

Dylan & Summer’s Food Creation:
organic banana puffs for babies
vanilla soy milk
whip cream
parmesan cheese

Directions: Mix all of it together. Chill for 10 – 15 minutes. Make your parents eat it.

It’s like I’m writing one of those awesome recipe blogs.

I want to do a little shout out to some of my recent advertisers because without them I might not be able to afford candy and my soy lattes. Which would probably result in me being so not funny.     That sounded pretty good…until the cheese, maybe that could be an optional omission? Perhaps a list of possible alternatives like…fruit?

    Personally, I think you got lucky. There was a whole lot more room in that bowl. Suggest chocolate chips instead of the cheese.

    I often think of the UNBELIEVABLE photo album, scrapbook, memoir, instruction manual, and NOW recipe collection, you are creating for your Lucky Lucky progeny. It’s the kind of thing us mortals only dream of! And I can’t thank you enough for reminding me of all the shenanigans my kids pulled, that I never chronicled. Thank for sharing your adventures of motherhood….especially for those of us who are losing brain cells daily!
    PS Jenny used to make “potions” in dozens of paper bathroom cups that she would hide under the bathroom cabinets and I would not find until weeks later, when the cups had disingtegrated into a mush that still makes me vomit a little in my throat!!!

    Funny, I just purchased a cookbook at the local garage sale for my great nieces (Ava & Lila) called ‘For Children Who Like to Cook’ and that recipe wasn’t in there. You can borrow it for the girls from Mama Bird Jordana when it arrives.

  • So when your kids are teen-agers and say you are a horrible mother, the worst mother ever in the history of mothers, and that they hate you and you’re ruining their lives, and they’re going to DIE if you don’t let them date thugs/wear shorts that cut of circulation in their butts/dye their hair aubergine…. this post and those pictures are TOTALLY the proof that they’re wrong. My kids make stuff like that too and I have never once even pretended to taste it. I do, however, let them freeze it, which means when we moved I had to offload from the freezer any number of small plastic containers filled with…well, I’m not sure what.

    I personally think children’s food creations [experiments] taste better when you eat it with a toddler spoon. Good choice – smaller portions.
