Before I had kids it took me an hour to get ready in the morning. First there was the shower part, then the blow drying, then the hair flattening, then the makeup. And I didn’t just throw anything on my body. I had to feel good in my outfit.

I once spent 20 minutes trying to decide whether to wear sneakers or loafers for a walk across Central Park. It’s hard to admit that. And sadly, I can’t remember if I went with the sneakers or the loafers.

I can now get ready in that same 20 minutes. Which is why I agreed to do a sponsored post for Vaseline® Spray & Go Moisturizer because you spray that lotion on and you’re done.

In the new commercial (shown here), the acrobat/dancer gets dressed in less than 30 seconds (and that includes applying her moisturizer!). It took some fancy moves and hidden magnets to make it happen. Here is the behind the scenes video of how they did it…

All this talk about super speedy moisturizer got me thinking about other ways to save time in the morning. Here are my tips…

–Nag your kids the night before. Ladies, how much time are we wasting yelling at our kids to get dressed, eat breakfast and so on in the morning?! I recommend doing all this hollering the night before so it’s done and out of the way.

–Imagine Ryan Gosling will be at camp drop off. You’ll be out the door in minutes.

–Tell your daughters One Direction will be at camp drop off.

–Sunglasses and lip gloss in lieu of makeup. (The two required items for harried women everywhere.)

–Cute jeans instead of shaving. Yes, this means during the summer months, you’ll be hot and hairy. But it’s a real time saver!

–Keep smart phones out of reach. (Because for some reason, I will take the time to text a friend about a 2007 episode of “Friday Night Lights” when I only have 6 more minutes to get myself and 5 children out the door.

3 Responses to the morning routine: it’s not for the slow going

  • This is really funny! I freely admit I will get out of the shower, put on my bikini and a dress-like cover up and flip flops then go straight out to take the kids on errands — looks like I just got out of the pool, right? I let the kids wear their swimsuits out too to add legitimacy to my ruse.

I wish there was an app that didn’t let me do anything except use the alarm on my phone until I get out of bed. I am horrible about getting up. I act as if FB/Instagram/whatever won’t be there in an hour.
