I have a very moody 4-year-old. Very. Before I dropped her at camp this morning, she was able to cram in the following complaints on a 4 minute drive and 2 minute walk into the Y.

1. She was very hot.

2. She had sunscreen in her eye.

3. She just couldn’t summon the energy to say goodbye to her sister (I can only imagine it was the repressive heat and extra layers of sunscreen).

4. She didn’t want to swim at camp.

5. Her foot itched. Terribly.

6. She had to walk very very slowly (no exact reason given).

And all this news was surprisingly not delivered in a perky, happy tone. It was more of a whine. Whining is Summer’s second language. I love when kids are bilingual.

And just a few weeks ago, I asked her to take a photo with me on the beach. I think you can see the happiness in her face…

She’s the pouty one on the right in case I look young enough to be her sister.

I love her deeply but her behavior can be so maddening.

But just when Summer has pushed me to my absolute limit, when I am ready to explode with frustration, she suddenly changes course. She shows me her incredible, energetic, vibrant other side.

She shows me her joy.

And she just glows.

Here she is just a few minutes later, boogie boarding (or guppy boarding as my girls call it because they have clearly watched way too many episodes of “Bubble Guppies”)…..

One look at her face and I, too, am filled with joy.

Shutterfly (who graciously sponsored this post and is therefore helping to fund my fierce candy addiction) wants to hear about your moment of joy. Share your story and upload a photo (optional), and in return Shutterfly will give you $5 off your next photo book and you will be entered for a chance to win a $200 Shutterfly gift card. No obligation to hand over that $200 gift card to me but of course it would probably be the right thing to do.

Okay, here comes the required legal stuff. You’ll see fancy words like redemption and copyright and probably no mention of Justin Bieber….

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Shutterfly. The opinions and text are all mine. Offer valid for $5 off one photo book order and valid for one-time redemption per member. Taxes, shipping and handling will apply. BlogFrog hosted gift card contest live from June 17th to July 14th. A winner will be randomly chosen and announced on July 18th. All participants remain the copyright holder of their photos.
