When Summer and Dylan were younger, we took them to Italy.

Chase and Harlowe? They get to go to to Pennsylvania. Which is kind of like Italy. Without the Colosseum and other showy Roman Empire stuff.

We started the vacation in Philadelphia and ended it at a gigantic indoor water park in the Poconos. I’m just glad the girls saw the Liberty Bell before the Double Barrel Drop water slide. Because you aren’t allowed to slide down the bell. Just ask 23-month-old Chase.

In Philly, we visited the Please Touch Museum and then did the Rick eating tour with hard shell crabs at DiNardo’s and cheese steaks at Jim’s. Or was it Pat’s? Or Geno’s? I don’t know. Some guy. Who likes to cook steak and cheese.

Then we visited Rick’s sister-in-law where Harlowe broke a china plate and then we stopped by Rick’s friend Debbie’s house where Chase drew all over her wall.

The good news? We got the marker off!

The bad news? We scraped the paint off too!

With that stuff off Chase and Harlowe’s To Do List, we hit the Crayola Experience in Easton and then headed to the Great Wolf Lodge.

The Great Wolf Lodge is a huge indoor water park…

with wave pools, slides and all kinds of other cool stuff that will make your kids never want to go home. On the plus side for adults, there is a poolside bar and you can walk around with your cocktails. On the downside, this was my hair after spending two days in this humid water palace.

There is also some Quest game in the hotel and everyone runs around madly trying to become Master Magi but I never quite figured it out.

All in all, we did three hotels in four nights during this “vacation” which really must make Rick and me Master Magi anyway.

Here are a few of my favorite moments from the trip…

(Note to safety conscious readers: Yes, I fixed both Harlowe and Chase’s car seat straps.)

Why is it so much easier to love them when they’re asleep? Must be their inability to ruin it with talking!

  • Abby says:

I think you look gorgeous with the beachy waves! Move over, Blake Lively! Hot Mama is in town!

  • Awwwww! Too cute!

My almost 2.5 year-old daughter unstraps herself out of her belt JUST LIKE HARLOWE. We’ll be driving and she’ll be almost entirely turned around in her seat giggling that she “buckled.” Her chest clip will be at her belly and her arms will be out. Maybe it’s time for us to make her forward-facing? We solved the problem by getting a second clip to strap her in and pull the seat SUPER tight. She’s not impressed.

This is also the girl who pulled the fire alarm at her big sister’s sixth grade dance just a few weeks ago. They had to evacuate the entire school so they would re-set the alarm. Apparently my husband reassuring them that our toddler pulled the alarm wasn’t enough to convince the fire department they didn’t have to come. The principal says he’ll be watching for her in 10ish years.

So a little marker on the wall and a broken china plate are just child’s play. Wait until the chaos disrupts hundreds of middle schoolers.

Love the post! :-) Seeing the marker made me feel better about the fire alarm!

The fire alarm went off in the middle of the night when we were staying at the Great Wolf Lodge… now I’m thinking your daughter might have had something to do with it.

  • About that marker on the wall? Magic Eraser. It rocks.

    Kelcey Reply:

They didn’t have it! We were about to run out and get it when we tried a Brillo pad. Great on marker, not so great on paint finishes.

I now have magic eraser in my home for Chase’s next visit.
    :)
I also recently “heard” that it takes blueberry stains off ceilings. Just in case “someone” opens the blender while making a smoothie. I’m just sayin’…just in case something like that were to happen.

  • Is that a UV Skinz that Chase is wearing? (Even if it isn’t, I’m going to imagine that it is. ;). Ready for new ones yet!?!?!

    Kelcey Reply:

It is. It is. I’m pretty sure it is. Do you think I would dress my kids in anything less that UV Skinz?! :)

I feel like I need a vacation day after reading your post. I am tired just from reading it. I cannot imagine watching four children in a water park. My two keep me very busy. It sounds like you made lots of good memories for your family. I love it.

  • Steph says:

Wow, your hair looks great straight or with curls. I’m so jealous. I admit that I missed that the car seat straps weren’t in place. Must have been distracted by the angelic sleeping babies.

  • Sleeping cherubs – love it.
We went to Great Wolf in Wisconsin last year and I was introduced to ‘the apron’ while there. Its a large flap of skin some women have, like large flap … and they lift it like an apron to wash below. Yup, it had a name and sitting next to these bathing beauties made me feel like a million bucks ;)

  • Deb Ringold says:

    1. Your hair looks great anyway
    2. Glad my wall made your blog, but you could have updated everyone on the fact that I did eventually put a photo in that frame
    3. We should have just had Chase sign his artwork and start a new decor trend in my basement…he may be a budding artist whose work will be worth millions one day
    4. Thank you for not mentioning the blank look on my face when you asked where I keep my cleaning supplies

LOVED SEEING ALL OF YOU! Thank you for making the effort to stop by in your travels!!!! <3

  • erinb says:

your hair is my everyday in summer. was the crayola experience at the SIL’s house or a real place? your son might have been confused. xo

  • Emily says:

My kids want to go to Great Wolf Lodge so bad- they have one near us in Dallas. At least you didn’t have to do sunscreen on 4 kiddos??

  • anymommy says:

The kids are adorable but that picture of you is priceless. That is exactly how I look after a day at our local indoor water park. We could be twinsies.

  • I prefer to call these types of experiences “adventures” rather than vacations because there is no rest going on. Lots of fun and lots of work but little rest. However, having said that, I can’t wait to go on our road trip adventure in June!

ps- the beachy waves look awesome on you!

  • jill sherman says:

I love sleeping baby pictures!!! They look so peaceful. Whatever unsettling things happened during that day are totally forgotten. It sounds like a great trip. Loved your hair do Kelcey! You must figure out how to replicate that do!
