Because it was too cold in Florida to go to the pool, we decided to head to Butterfly World, where the pamphlet promised that dreams come true. Dreams come true? I mean, can you hope for more than that in an afternoon? I don’t think so.

As soon as we got there Rick magically transformed into a wildlife photographer and took like 756 pictures of butterflies. I can only assume he’s putting together a coffee table book. I kept asking him why he was taking so many pictures and he kept asking me why I cared since it’s a digital camera. Alright buddy, but you’re doing your own deleting.

The butterflies at this place will actually land on you and hang out…

And some of them are BIG….

I’ve always dreamed of owning a butterfly brooch for my hat.

This was as close as Dylan was getting…

Of course, there was a sign warning visitors not to molest the butterflies. Yes, I’m serious…

But Rick and I couldn’t really help ourselves. We attempted to molest them…

Now, if you are not wow’ed by butterflies, I’ve got some birds for you…

Birds that land on your head.

Summer was quite unhappy when one landed on her head. And Rick, a daddy who will protect his young to the very end, attempted to blow it off her.

Which really didn’t work. It turns out that birds aren’t so intimidated by a little breeze. And I really was laughing too hard to actually help. But a staff member finally swatted the bird off Summer’s head.

Ok so at this point in the post, if you are not impressed with the butterflies or the birds, then I have this for you….

Yeah, that’s Tim Riggins (aka Taylor Kitsch) of “Friday Night Lights.” Jacquie requested a photo. (How did I not think to do this on my own?!)

I guess dreams really do come true at Butterfly World.

Disclaimer: Taylor Kitsch may not have actually been at Butterfly World. But this blogger thinks he’d make an excellent addition to the exhibit. Of course, they would need to put up sign. Please don’t molest Taylor Kitsch.

Great pictures….poor Summer and maybe if Rick blew harder the bird would fly away. I love the last picture the best omg those arms…thank you! Have a wonderful weekend!

Ah. I am loving this FNL theme. Without Direct TV my only connection to Coach Taylor, Tammy, Julie, Riggins, Saracen, Lyla, and all my buds in Dillon is this blog. Please continue to throw me some lifelines. I miss my Panther Family!

756 photos is nothing. I could fill up your camera’s memory card in 10 minutes flat. It would make a great coffee table book. Honest.

  • Oliver and I have clocked many hours at the Key West Butterfly Sanctuary. And it is magical. The fist time I went, I was with my brother (pre-kids) and we started laughing the minute we walked it. It was like entering a Disney movie with clouds of butterflies flitting by. The birds aren’t so familiar though – no fear of the little chickadee like things landing on your head. I LOVE the comment about Rick deleting his own digital photos. That’s exactly what I would have been thinking.

Hope you guys had a nice vacation in Florida. It was great meeting all of you in person!
I have been to Butterfly many times and even had a good luck poop from a bird!
Sorry we couldn’t provide better weather.
    See you in May!

My favorite part of this post is that Summer is wearing a tiny tank top and YOU have a hat, coat, gloves.

The bird thing would have CREEPED ME OUT NO END! I would need a big strong man to give it a little blow off me.

There are several things that crack me up about this post – but my favorite is that you are wearing a winter jacket and a hat and Summer is wearing a beach dress! The other is you being upset about Rick taking the pics – I get it – Michael has a thing for squirrels in the snow. I don’t blame Dylan – butterflies give me the willies – they’re just colorful moths in my book.

I have a little butterfly garden of my own and they are a delight to have around, and for birds we have a feeder outside the breakfast window so no need for me to go to Florida, however, that yummy guy, where do I find him?

  • Jen says:

I loved being at Butterfly World with y’all — so funny how kids are never cold, and we bundle up (or at least wear jackets)…loved all the pics. And now I’m off to search for Taylor Kitsch, if he’s in TX I want to find him!

You seem to be on a serious comedic roll! I was going to write that you four are the cutest people I have ever seen in my life. But then I got distracted by the pic at the end. Holy smokes. I will taunt you by saying that Tim Riggins is front and center in the new season and he spends a lot of time in his underwear — the image is seared in my brain. Riggins aside, you are still the cutest people I have ever seen in my life.

Lol – I think Florida is making you even funnier! Thanks for the laughs – LOVE the pic of Rick softly (and yet, very manly) blowing on that huge bird that’s basically eating Summer.

  • Jacquie says:

Thanks Kelcey, you made my day! πŸ™‚ For other Mama bird readers – here in Austin there are a lot of FNL cast members hanging out around town, so if you ever visit, be on the lookout!

    hmmm I am kinda with dylan on this one. butterflies on my arm, head, whatever is just too much…just fly by me butterfly thanks! :-}

  • Aunt Marcia (Guess Whose?) says:

The same sign is in Monterey or was it Pacific Grove, CA where the Monarch Butterflies arrive every year and are a ‘protected species’…And of course I ‘molested’ them by flashing my boobs by the sign and my friend took the photo. But you don’t have to ‘pay’ to see them…they’re flying around all over.

  • Elisa says:

I think the butterfly might get a little pissed if they added him because he would probably steal their thunder. Just sayin’. I’m pretty sure there are a lot of people who woulnd’t mind if he landed on them.

Also, that butterfly on your hat? Fabulous. Maybe Rick can create a special collage brooch for you with the gazillion photos he took. There! That’s why he took all those shots! It’s not that bothersome if it’s for you, right?
