So today, my beautiful Dylan is 4.

We bought her a princess dress. I know, a bit hypocritical (ok a lot) after my criticism of the princess/barbie bikes, but Target finally broke me. The human spirit can only withstand so much princess mania without finally surrendering.

Today is also my 6th wedding anniversary.

Do you think Rick and I are one of those couples who are starting to look alike?

To celebrate, we visited my dad and some of his close friends, Dan and Sally, in the Berkshires in Massachusetts. Man, is it gorgeous up there with rolling hills, lush greenery and majestic horses.

And wow, it’s incredibly dark at night.

And breathlessly quiet.

And everyone leaves their doors unlocked.

Is it me or does this scenario beg for a serial killer?

Since we had lots of free babysitters on hand like my father and his friends, Rick and I, decided to go out to dinner to celebrate our anniversary. We stepped out in the pitch dark night and climbed into the car.

“Why is it so dark in here? Why aren’t the car lights going on?” Rick wondered out loud.

“I don’t know,” I responded. “AGHHHHHHHHHHHH!” I screamed.

“What?! What?! What are you screaming about?!!!!” Rick shouted back.

“Oh sorry. Nothing. I thought there might be an intruder in the backseat so I reached back and felt something, ” I explained. “Turns out it was just one of the car seats.”

Rick just rolled his eyes.

And think, he’s got only six years with me under his belt.

A whole bunch more to go, buddy.ย  We’re just getting started here.

before heading to NH, i was scared shitless of the woods and every last scary film i’ve ever seen. seriously. scared.
the doors didn’t have locks and there was an ice pick next to the ice box, stabbed into a piece of wood by the door that didn’t lock. once i hid the pick, i could relax and oddly, i found myself not scared at all, even in the dark. weird.

happy anniversary and happy birthday to your girl. mine is tomorrow, just add 4 decades and we’re the same age. no really, we are.

You haven’t experienced darkness until you’ve spent a night in the country or the mountains. The darkness swallows whole houses and trees. It’s amazing. So, I agree!

    HAPPY Anniversary!

And, Happy Birthday to Dylan! How amazing these two important dates coincide!

there’s something about the crowds in a city that makes you feel more alone and less alone at the same time. i used to find an odd comfort knowing i lived within screaming distance of so many others. i had no idea who they were but i knew they were there. that dark would scare me, too. happy anniversary.

Four! Four is so much fun. (Seriously, four kicks three’s ass. Totally.)

And…six! Hooray! I don’t know what six is, but I know it’s not Golden and I know it’s not Silver…and I’m also sure it’s not the Serial Killer Anniversary, so I think you’re safe, even out there in the boonies.

Happy Day, all around, to all of you.

Happy birthday to Dylan and happy anniversary to you guys. You’re right — it is very dark and very quiet in the Berkshires. My friend got married there a number of years ago and while it was beautiful, there was something strangely creepy about it. That was it — dark and quiet.

Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday to Dylan. My husband was born on his parents’ 1 yr anniversary. (Oh, I woulda freaked about the carseat too. And yep, my hubby would have rolled his eyes at me , too.)

Love the picture of you and Rick. Love the image of you screaming in the car. I jumped and screamed a mile when I thought a worm touched my hand the other day…was just a silk from the corn. I’m a tough cookie!

Happy 4th birthday Dylan! Happy Anniversary! Todd and I celebrated our 5th anniversary in Vermont this summer, but we’re used to the quiet and darkness. Actually I guess it’s not so quiet when I have 4 children running around my house or when I’m teaching 23 five year olds. That must be why enjoy quiet time so much. Enjoy this special day!

Happy Birthday Sweet Dylan, you sassy thing! Happy Anniversary Kelcey and Rick! Nothing’s better than sharing your life with your best friend.

  • Erin says:

Happy Birthday to Dylan! And Happy Anniversary to you and Rick. Glad you got a chance to celebrate. Dylan and my husband have the same bday (but he has a lot of years on her!)

  • Shay says:

Happy Birthday and Anniversary. Wow that was quite a day for you 4 years ago eh?!

….and I find the city really loud and so busy. I do love it but there’s something about the quiet….

Do you ever watch that show Say Yes To the Dress?

Target was probably running that show in the store…it\\\’s all about the subliminal messages, in retail.

Happy Birthday to Dylan, and Happy Anniversary!

    Happy Celebrations!
During our Gustav induced power outage – I was a bit scared as we all slept in one room in the dark (and the whole big city of Baton Rouge was in the dark) but we were all relieved (especially me) by a faint moon glow because there wasn’t really anything I could do about it. And dear hubby was working at the hospital…It was ripe for serial killers as well, no security systems, etc. But we made it

What a happy happy celebration day for all of you! Congrats!
    and here in the burbs of CT my doors are locked, bolted and alarm system ready to go!! We dont mess around like those Berkshire folks :-}

  • Karen Bland says:

Congrats! We’ve got the big “five” anniversary coming up, but we have no time (or money) left to celebrate, given we have to have a party for a 2 year old, and we just had one for a 4 year old and 3 year old. So forget the Four Seasons for us – it’s all about bouncer parties, bob the builder and expensive cupcakes! xxoo

Happy Birthday, Dylan! What a perfect little princess gift! And, yeah, what happened to good old little red bikes???
Happy 6th Anniversary! May you enjoy decades more!
    Love you! T

Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday to Dylan! When I look at the girls’ pictures and see how much they look like both you and Rick, I begin to think you are looking alike. ๐Ÿ™‚
