I’ve been hearing about sleepaway camp for as long as I’ve known my husband. I’m pretty sure it came up on our first date. Why? Because my husband describes it as the defining experience of his childhood.

He believes it allowed him to grow and change in ways that would never have been possible without those 4 weeks away from home every summer. As he describes it – at summer camp, he wasn’t defined by school labels or parental oversight. He could be anything he wanted to be.

We send our girls to sleep away camp but only for five days. I cannot imagine sending them for the whole summer. We do so many fun things in the summer as a family. Good luck with the decision. You and Rick are wonderful parents!

All three of mine are heading out June 25th for 7 weeks of sleepaway camp and I CAN”T wait 🙂 I miss them, but it is totally amazing. I just hosted a sleepover for camp friends and the best part is, my son’s camp friends are totally different then his school and town friends. He really gets to be who he wants to be and not who he’s kind of become around here through osmosis. Am I selling it? Oh, and I’m going to visit every friends I can drive to that has an awesome beach or country house while they’re gone (including Becky!), you could ditch your kids and join us 🙂

Hi… This blog sounds great. Overall is excellent. I love this. But need to improve to explain in deep and listing the factors specifically. But still it’s awesome and knowledgeable. Nice work. Yes, I like your word my kid is ready for sleepaway camp but I’m definitely not.
