We took the girls to my in-law’s so we could finish packing up the apartment and move. As we were leaving the apartment, I said to Dylan, “This is the last time you’ll see our apartment. Do you want to say goodbye?”
“Bye!”
And with that, she gleefully ran down the hall to the elevator.
4 1/2 year-olds just aren’t that sentimental.
As for me, I was practically weeping as I watched the movers pack up the kids’ room.
Rick and I are spending one last night in the apartment before the big move and we’re both scouting out the best possible sleeping arrangements.
I already called shotgun on the bubble wrap blanket.
I asked Rick what he’s going to miss most about living in New York City. He said, the restaurants and his city identity.
As for me, it’s gotta be the roadside ceviche.
We saw this way uptown today when we were cleaning out our storage unit. It’s actually the first time I’ve seen clams and ceviche sold on the street. I can’t imagine why most Manhattan vendors waste their time on predictable hotdogs and pretzels.
What will I really miss the most? The creative energy of New York.
But look at our adorable new house…
We stopped by our new home and saw two cute little kids riding their bikes up and down the street.
Rick, always so friendly, said hello to them.
And they just stared blankly back at him, without a hint of a smile.
Which definitely reminded me of my own girls and their refusal to show the slightest warmth towards a friendly neighbor.
I think we’re totally going to fit in here.

The house is adorable and having a yard is something I am positive you’re going to love, especially now that it’s summer
Your house is super cute! Bluebird ice cream sounds fabulous. Does the winner get a gym membership to counteract the ice cream? 🙂
You’re moving to The White House!
This is a big move indeed!
All the best, Kelcey & Family!!!!
I love your house…is it weird that I love the steps up to the house?
Does having some Blue Bunny ice cream in my freezer right now give me an advantage? 😉
I love you sleeping arrangement ideas, I hope your back is better! At first when I read the children riding their bikes didn’t say hello or smile I thought you were moving to Germany and I got excited. But then I remember it was still NY. Love your new house, I picture the girls hanging on the front porch with popsicles with all their friends.
Congrats on the move.
Did you get that bed at Ikea? Because I think you have to actually build it.
The new house looks perfect. 🙂
Your new house is so cute. I should take a photo of our house front – they could be long-lost twin sisters!
Congratulations on your new move and I swear you won’t miss the city too much. xoxo
It’s hard to leave but I am sure, by now you are ready. Your new house is lovely. Having a yard is a great thing. I can picture you all sitting on your front steps, eating your Blue Bunny ice cream smiling at your neighbors wondering if there’s the slightest possibility that SJP might be spotted in your neighborhood in Westchester!
What do you call a sad rabbit?
A BLUE BUNNY, of course!!
Hope your back feels better.
Have a happy move
It would be helpful if I even knew what ceviche was, Hope all goes smoothly with the move. My 6 year old daughter knows she lived in another house when she was born until age 3 and we drive through that neighborhood and she is sad.
the house looks adorable, and I’m sure your kids and those girls will be best buds in no time….they’ll be the block’s “Mean Girls”…..okay, onto winning the Blue Bunny ice cream…..I live in Florida…..it’s friggin’ hot here….send ice cream!!!! 🙂
Hang in there friend! I am sure you will miss the city and all it has been for you for the last many years. You will make new memories and new friends in your new place! I will be thinking of you and saying a few prayers for you. Moving is rarely easy.
The suburbs are get for the kids. But be sure to visit the city often to rejuvenate yourself.
You can only survive on Juicy Couture sweats and french manicures for so long.
House is adorable.
Oh, and I forgot to mention about the Blue Bunny. I’m totally into it as my kids are suffering….they’ve been eating Chunky Monkey this whole time.
Good luck with the move — your new house looks awesome!
Um, I’m pregnant = needs Blue Bunny. ’nuff said.
I’m trying to imagine what roadside ceviche would be would be served in. It is usually done up so prettily with pretty plates and garnishes…
The house is really adorable! Good luck with the move!
Best of luck with the move – I am sure you and the family will all love it all once you get settled.
what an adorable house!!
very cute house. I think it is funny how you mention that your 4 1/2 year old is not sentimental. when we moved from China back to the USA my 5 year old was so upset at everything we were leaving behind. He was so concerned, that is until he saw his new room in his new house. Then he was so excited because of course he had the coolest room ever! We would love some blue bunny to go in the new house.
Congrats on the big move! Happy settling in to your new house. It will feel just like home in no time.
Your new house is adorable. And where you see solemn bike riding kids, I see cheap babysitters. Did you pack the Emmy already?
Blue Bunny! Blue Bunny! Blue Bunny!
Good luck with your move! When we moved out of our first house, I was very sad too. For us it was leaving Washington, DC for the country life in Connecticut and while it took some getting used to, it’s the best thing we’ve ever done. Oh and while you won’t find roadside ceviche, there is a gem in Westchester in my humble opinion …Sal’s Pizza in Mamaroneck … it’s the best!
Your new house is adorable. I can’t wait to hear about your new life in the burbs. Maybe you’ll have a blue bunny as an outdoor pet?
Hello! Blue Bunny!!
If only we could move on and live in the moment as well as children! I do love your house. Congrats and I’ll cross my fingers for a smooth transition!
So excited for you guys! The house is gorgeous. 🙂 I know it’s bittersweet, but it sounds like you’re going to be happy in your new home! Looking forward to the tales of suburbia from a city girl. 🙂
your house is so super cute, and it’s the best time to move well if the rain ever stop you’ll have a garden in the summer, I love breakfast outside and diner and just napping…oh shoo that was before kids but they can look after you…Enjoy enjoy that new adventure…as for blue bunny never saw one…
I will miss you mama!!!!!!
What a great house. Plan on any more (blue) bunnies??
😉
Good luck with the move! The house looks perfect. Is Rick going to bbq tonight?
I am not sure what to say about Blue Bunnies but I am craving ice cream (and steak. . .which is very odd). Great post!! XOXO 🙂
All best with the move. Is the propane tank going on the truck?
Good luck with the move and the transition to the burbs. If you feel sad, I’ll bet blue bunny ice cream will cheer you up!
house is adorable. and holy crow do you look just like your girls while trying to sleep on packed boxes!
Oh that house is adorable! Perhaps you should keep the Blue Bunny to yourself. It would surely win over those little neighbor girls!!
The house is gorgeous! Blue Bunny please!
And no ceviche from the street. I’m sure that means with a side of food poisoning… I mean how do they keep all that raw seafood fresh in a hot summer day?
That stroller looks pretty comfy. Good luck with everything–can’t wait to hear about it all.
Blue Bunny, Blue Bunny, Blue Bunny.
It’s 100+ degrees down here in Austin. We’re in desperate need of ice cream.
And I’d totally have called dibs on the stroller, too.
I know full well how hard it is to pack up a household and move with wee ones… well done on the packing fron.t! I hope your move goes as smoothly
Your new house looks very ‘home sweet homey’ — congratulations!
Man… I kinda wish the DNA kit was the give away… think how many people could avoid the Maury Povich “Who is my baby daddy” shows if they got free DNA testing kits!?!?!?!
But, alas… I am not slated to go on his show any time soon, so I’ll just take the Blue Bunny ice cream. Yeah… cuz I’m not fat enough!!!
The house looks awesome. Mazel tov! Oh yes, Blue Bunny
Adorable house and I giggled at the pics of you and Rick choosing sleeping spots in the apartment. Good luck on the unpack (I get the hives just THINKING about moving and packing and unpacking!) and settling process in your new home!
Nice house- congrats!
Congrats!!! The house is totally cute and I look forward to your latest “wry” posts. (Get it? Rye?!) I’m going to keep up the bad jokes until you hand over the Blue Bunny ice cream.
Rick summed up what I miss most about living in DC. I have always felt like a city person. I grew up in the city, went to college in the city…but now I’m a suburban mom. I just embrace it. All that unlimited parking, no one asking you for money while you’re running errands. The ability to go out looking bad because, really, who is going to see you? You can’t beat it.
good luck Kelcey! will be thinking of you… i hope everything goes smoothly! you and the girls are going to ‘rock’ your new hood!
and i totally need to try some of that blue bunny! craving ice cream everynight!!! UGH!
Your house is adorable – best of luck!
Mmm…Blue Bunny would be yummy in my tummy!
Hi, I have chosen your blog as one of 15 to win the prestigious “Lovely Blog” award.

looking forward to the post “first night in the burbs”
xoxo
Love that house!
The girls might not be sad, but I am a little bit on your behalf. There’s almost no good street food in Denver, except for the burrito hawkers at baseball games.
Yes. I WANT ICE CREAM.
Love the new house! Hope you guys adjust well. Be ready for the whole “Holy crap, what did we just do?” but it will all be ok in the end. Promise.
School’s out for summer! We need some Blue Bunny ice cream to celebrate!
Oh Kelcey- It is lovely! Congrats…I think you will love suburbia…and one day look back with a smile and no more tears! Good Luck. Do as I do after a looong tiring day…unwind in your new tub, relax and my fav? I LOVE pampering myself with my Topricin foot cream…OMG, it rocks for sore feet! So, get some pampering in somehow and enjoy your new palace! smilinggreenmom *tweet me!!
yay…what a way to celebrate some warm summer days…w/ Blue Bunny ice cream and treats!
Blue Bunny please! Your new home is adorable. Can’t wait to hear all the new stories that take place there. Good luck with the sleeping arrangements and the move!
That Blue Bunny Cookie ice cream looks Delicious!!! Can I get that in California..I’m craving some NOW!!!! I’m lovin the colorful M&M’s!!!
And your house is absolutely adorable. You are going to love it I’m sure…..Can’t wait to see the inside.
Bon voyage! Courage! And a steady supply of Mojitos will get you though…
Don’t feel bad- kids never smile at me when I flash them my sweetest grin and say hi either! What a beautiful house…soon you’ll be all settled in and your kids will be riding their bikes doing cartwheels on your lawn and you’ll feel like you’re finally home! Now give me my Blue Bunny!;)
The trying to figure out sleeping arangements thing brings up memories. (BLUE BUNNY) Before we moved to Germany, we did the same thing. (BLUE BUNNY) We ended up sleeping on the pads to our IKEA chairs. (BLUE BUNNY) Did I mention that I was almost 8 months pregnant at the time? (BLUE BUNNY)
I am thinking you should fill the tub with Blue Bunny and get busy in there – sleeping I mean. (o;
Good luck with your move and the new house!!! Can’t wait to read about your adventures in the suburbs. Blue Bunny.
roadside. ceviche. SO WRONG. the house, however? fantastic!
you have a stoop! i always wanted a stoop. all the best – where’s westchester? still in NY?
Aww, cute house. i miss my window box. Blue Bunny! Yum 🙂
Congratulations on the lovely house and the enormous milestone of packing everything up. I know how awful getting prepped for a move is. I hope you LOVE your new neighborhood!
Gorgeous house! It looks so crisp and clean and WHITE–that is my favorite house color. Though a blue bunny painted on the side might be cute. See there? I used “blue bunny” in a sentence! Okay, a crappy sentence, but still!
congratulations on your new home! i can’t believe it, you’re gone, we’re leaving, booo hooo. hope to see you before summer over and we leave for austin…i want to hear all about the ‘burbs, house, etc… tell the girls we say hi–Luke is going to miss his little crush Summer 🙂 XOX oh and blue bunny ice cream, isn’t that from Texas?
Good luck with the transition. As someone permanently stuck, I mean leaving in the ‘burbs, I’m somewhat afraid for you. But I turned out SO normal, what’s to worry?! (send help)
I LOVE the house and can’t wait to see the inside. I am sure you are all going to be so happy with the space and a back yard. I could have used Blue Bunny Ice cream in my freezer this weekend with all the kids here. We had so much fun.
You must have been so sad to say goodbye to your apartment. I wish I could live there and I promise I would let you order sushi all of the time. You’ll adjust to life in your new home soon enough, don’t worry!
Your new house looks so nice!! Gorgeous and what fun you are all going to have with all that new found ROOM!
Blue Bunny!
Awww. It’s so hard to leave the city, but you are going to love it. Be warned, it takes a few months of adjustment. Nolan can’t live without his blue bunny (really, look at my facebook photos). And if we got blue bunny ice cream he’d be ecstatic!
Moving is so hard. The new house looks wonderful:) Good luck with it!
Love the new house…I can’t believe your last night in the west village. wow. Boy that ceviche looks incredible, can’t believe you didn’t share that hot spot with me. Yikes!
The house is going to be so great! The girls will love spreading out their “stuff”! Good luck. Love the sleeping on the stroller. Even the packagaing on that blue bunny photo looks good!
I love Blue Bunny® Ice Cream and not because a blue bunny is obviously so much cooler than a mauve bunny, it’s cause it’s yummy.
Cute house!
Love your new house! The pics of y’all sleeping are so funny!
I hope you’re enjoying the “burbs”!
My Dad passed away this past weekend…Not sure how much more bad news I can take!
Blue Bunny ice cream rocks and I’d love to win…I need cheering up lol
One of my faves is the no sugar added banana split! Yum!
BlueBunny ice cream and not having to move! Your new house is darling and you can move back into the city when the chitlin’s are grown!
blue bunny every month would be awesome.
We moved from the city to CT, it really took a while to get used to. I missed the hustle and bustle and the good food. It’s great for the kids though. Me, still a bit meh!
Love the house! Blue Bunny Mint Choc Chip is my all time favorite. I’m not just making that up to kiss up either! 🙂 It is my sweets addiction.
I came over from seeing your comment on OHMommy’s blog, and then I see you’re giving away Blue Bunny? The best ice cream EVER? Oh yeah! My fave flavor is Bunny Tracks. Mmmm.
Yummo! Ice cream thru the hot summer months, what could be better?
Maybe you could hold a neighborhood ice cream social when you settle in…that’ll show em how city girls do it!
I’ve been locked out for the past two ice cream giveaways. Is someone trying to tell me something?
Please Blue Bunny. I need you.
Your new house IS adorable even if it doesn’t have a blue bunny painted on the front of it. I think I saw a small mauve bunny, though.
roseinthemorning [at] gmail [dot] com
Congrats on your new house. now you need some Blue Bunny ice cream to celebrate.
How funny, I’ve actually seen that ceviche stand! Welcome to Westchester! I’m originally from uptown manhattan and moved to Westchester 4 years ago…and then had kids. I love it here and I’m sure you will too. Best of luck!!!
