Thanks for this entry, it's always interesting to me to see how issues of motherhood and parenting get so magnified when they happen to celebrities and politicians. Speaking of which, I thought your readers might enjoy this documentary about the Dalai Lama's mother: The Great Mother. It shows on PBS and you can get copies at the link. It's a great look at her life, and also at motherhood in general, and the way that mothers are viewed in Tibet.

Team Bridget all the way. Glad to hear I was not the only one offended by Giselle's comments. If my step mom had ever said something so ridiculous about me, my mom would have cold cocked her.

And I love the fact that the Queen & Michelle embraced. So nice to have the rest of the world like us again

TOTALLY agree with Nikki that Giselle should be going the Jada Pinkett Smith route on this. Her remarks were HORRIBLE, whether she meant them to be or not. She was making the remarks that would be appropriate for someone who had ADOPTED a child and was trying to explain that the adoptedness didn't mean she loved him less than a biological child. In the context she's ACTUALLY IN (step-mom to a child with a fully active and loving mother), her remarks are jaw-droppingly inappropriate. But if she'd gone the JPS route and called him her "bonus son" or something, or talked about how much she loves him and is so happy to be allowed an opportunity to help raise him---that would have been sooooooo much better.

The Obama's rock. So glad they getting the world to stop hating us 'stoopid Americans,' woot!
Giesle, et al really shouldn't be allowed to open their mouths until they pass a battery of intelligence tests. Good thing they make a lot of money for the baby's future therapy bills.
