I am always thinking about when the twins need to nurse. It’s like I’m MacGyver and I have to disassemble a bomb every two hours (plus do school pick-ups and the grocery shopping). So I’m constantly in a time panic.
Except when I let my guard down. Which happened this week.
Rick was off from work. We first pick up Summer at preschool and then he runs in to get Dylan at kindergarten. I know the twins feeding time has passed but I just pray they are quietly sleeping in their car seats. I am afraid to check.
Then Harlowe begins to cry. Loudly.
“Harlowe is crying mommy!” Summer alerts me.
No problem. I take Harlowe out of her car seat, do not make any kind of eye contact with Chase out of fear he will notice me. I begin breastfeeding Harlowe in the front seat.
Then Chase, who apparently does not need eye contact to know he’s hungry, begins to cry.
Oh Sh#t.
“Chase is crying mommy!” Summer alerts me.
I call Rick on his cell. No answer. Where are they?
Chase cries louder.
I stop nursing, get back out of the car, realize my boob is hanging out, cover it up and then get Chase out of his car seat. And that’s when Rick and Dylan show up and find one stressed out mama, two screaming babies and a 3 year-old who keeps notifying me that yes, the babies are still crying.
Somehow Rick helps me get both twins latched on.
And I now know that I can nurse both babies in the car, WITHOUT a boppy.
I don’t think MacGyver ever accomplished that.
McGyver’s got nothing on you. You’re a wonder, Wonderwoman!
I have to ask this – WHAT possessed you? Were you aiming for 3 and accidentally got 4, or did you plan for 2 and … Whoops!… 4! I only ask because I have one, and WOW is it challenging (and she’s reportedly and ANGEL compared to other children – eats right, sleeps right, cheerful even when really sick…). You blow my mind! (in a good way, by the way… none of this comment is meant to be offensive in ANY way.)
MacGyver – no. MacGruber – without a doubt!
yesterday i met a woman who was pregnant with twins. I told her to read your blog. lol, Anyway, you’re amazing.
I can’t get over how GREAT you look for having 4 kids and no sleep! You look fantastic.
You really are a pro Kelcey. I aspire to be like you…A mama that’s not afraid to get out into the world and DO!
(Even though you’ve got 2 ankle biters and an infant on each breast…lol) Kudos!
you are a supermom for sure!
Makes me happy for once that my kids are at the age where they just milk me for money!
Great photo. What if you had triplets? LOL.
Fabulous picture and a great example of “first things first”.
xo momala
I’m positive MacGyver never even attempted that! You make it look so easy. Go Kelcey!
Way to go! You are incredible!
you are a rockstar! great job!
Oh Mama, I’ve SO been there! My twins just weaned 4 months ago at the ripe old age of 2. The question is not where have I tandem nursed but better where have I NOT tandem nursed??? π
As the twins get older you will find it even easier to nurse anywhere! Not only that but they will be able to latch themselves on. That is how I figured out my twins were going to be contortionists! The real challenge was trying to nurse three…but we figured that out too! If you suddenly feel less challenged and are looking for one you can always get pregnant again & try nursing twins while 9 months pregnant & then nursing them and a newborn :)! Just kidding…it is a tad “beyond” challenging actually!
I am in awe! And a little hungry.
Impressive!!!!
I used to think that MacGyver was just the most accomplished person on earth, but seeing what you can do; no glue, paperclips or string, has brought it all into a new light. You rock!
You go girl. I have a six year old, 4 year old and 18 month old twins. I have been in your EXACT position. The other night I realized while nursing Ella in the side lying position I could pick will up with the other hand and get him latched on while he layed across my side. (the other side) I cannot imagine what I looked like.. but I’m sure it wasn’t pretty. My nipples paid for it too. lol
HOLY SHIT YOU ARE AMAZING! (Yes that deserved a swear)
That is AWESOME. You are an inspiration to nursing mothers everywhere.
When my (big) girls get hungry I’m sending them your way for sure.
Okay…so I’ve been checking out your site for awhile now and finally had to comment!!!
You made me laugh outloud when you said you got out of the car and your boob was hanging out. Ah, see, I remember those days all too clearly! I nursed 4 (all at different times…no twinsies or quadruplets) and had moments just like this! I admire you for sticking to nursing even though it has to be so hard with two!
You make me laugh every time I check-in…and I thank you for being a bright spot in my day!
*HUGS*
Have to agree with everyone else…you are amazing! Although I now BF my singleton pretty much anywhere, when I had my twins, I usually opted for a bottle out and about (they required high cal formula supplemental feedings since birth because they were so tiny, so I didn’t stress about doing some formula and some BF). I am so very impressed with you!
Can we talk about how cute that diaper bag is!? Kelcey, thank you for sharing your life with us, you are so sassy despite all the insanity!
I am never going to live up to this. My solution for having two children and a soon-to-be born infant is: stay at home all the time (or at least until I go back to work). I don’t know if that makes me lazy, sane, or just pathetic.
Atta Girl! That’s what wonderful memories are made of β₯ {my womb mates are coming up on their 22nd B-days} Time flys I tell ya.
You rock girlfriend! Love that smile :-}
A-MAZ-ING!
Just think if you had the “Chandler Bing” third nipple…history, would be made my friend. Kudos to you!
The expression on your face is priceless.
Oh, I remember the first time I realized I could nurse my twins without a boppy…. it was on an airplane, and I was not as happy as you are in the picture. Amazing how mommas can make just about anything work, isn’t it?
You rock! No, really!! A priceless gift for the twins. I only had to nurse one at a time, 4 seperate births and thought that was tough sometimes.
You’re truly a rockstar! Love the pic!
We call this MOMGyver in my house. And you are welcome to the title. You earn it. Every day.
Supermom! I’m so impressed that you’ve stuck with nursing TWO and you have two older kiddos to take care of, too. Wow! That picture is awesome! You’ll always have these memories. π
First of all you look so good on this photo it’s hard to believe that you manage these 4 bambinos and find time to write these hilarious posts! Also, way to go on getting rid of the lice; it seemed like quite the operation to get rid of that!!!
Finally, I just finished reading your entire blog, what a good read! It was like a funny and endearing novel that I couldn’t put down. I read it every time my girl was napping; now I look forward to every new posts and enjoy getting to know your family’s story as it evolves into bigger and better π Keep challenging MacGiver Kelcey, you rock!
As I have been saying all along – you are amazing! So very impressive. XOXO
I’ve always been amazed by tandem nursing. It looks so complicated. Yes I have twins – don’t judge.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. I applaud you for being able to nurse them both at the same time. Take that as your victory and let the rest slide…
Summer is very observant. I know how hard it is to hear a hungry baby.
I realized how uptight I was about the boppy and how things “had to be” just so when my kids were babies and then I watched the documentary, “Babies” – (4 babies, 4 different countries, first year of life, I know you have plenty of time to see it or it might have been out prior to the twins, I brought my 7 year old and she enjoyed it) It was fabulous to show just how different babies could be raised and they still survive and thrive. We are a very uptight nation and are taught to be so with all of our information out the wazoo and pressure about raising our children.
Great post!
My boobs hurt just reading this post.
you are truly awesome, Kelcey, i’m proud to bloggy-know you!
Seriously, you are my hero. Thankfully you didn’t try to nurse in the driver’s seat because I can tell you, one baby doesn’t fit there with the steering wheel. I can’t imagine two!
Absolutely unbelievable. I don’t know how you do it!!!!!!!
Good for you, girl, for continuing breastfeeding. Not enough mothers do it, let alone mothers of twins. I’m sure you’ve heard that before, but I know how challenging even nursing one infant can be (every 2 hours? yeah right, like every 30 minutes.) You put forth a great example for all breastfeeding women. Congrats on that, and your twins and your other two beautiful girls.
MacGyver definitely couldn’t lactate. And if he could, he couldn’t have done all that other shit.
in-credible! you look like i feel, but i only have one breastfeeding baby. but i do have three other kids at two different schools with three different pickup times and three different drop-off times. if i go five minutes without looking at a clock, i go into a blind panic that i have missed something…
you. are. amazing.
seriously, tandem breastfeeding makes my boobs run away. which is would be awkward except I don’t have much to begin with so no one notices. now I’m sad. but you are still a rockstar
Wow…and all with your foot on the gas!
