instructions for taking care of our four children
For the first time since the twins were born, Rick and I are getting a night away in the city. My parents have graciously agreed to take care of our children.
(My poor parents aren’t even married. They dated for a few years in the late 60s/early 70s, had an unexpected baby and four decades later are saddled with the responsibility of taking care of four children age 6 and under together. Let that be a lesson to all you young couples out there.)
Because I know it’s A LOT to deal with all the kids at the same time, I left specific instructions with everything they eat, when they nap and anything else I could think of….
That should do it.

My parents always laugh at me when I leave them detailed notes.
Until I had an unexpected trip to VA, and they had all 3 of them for 2 days.
They didn’t laugh too much then. Now that I think of it … at all.

Oh I hope one day I can write a note like that. Or maybe just send them a quick text. For now I use a 3-ring binder.
Have fun!

So jealous. We’ve been through all the people we know – my parents, his parents, my sister, my friend – that will come and watch our 4 kids. After the’ve done it once, never again. Now we have to wait for them to go to college. Enjoy!

You could have left 10 pages of notes, and they would have been ignored. Hope you had a wonderful time away.

I sure hope your parents share your fantastic sense of humor…especially after getting that note!
Glad you were able to get away and re-charge…makes us all better parents when we manage to get some “we” time in!

Glad to hear that your mother has decided that she has recovered enough to be up to the task (of handling your dad).
Best wishes, L***

I’m glad that you had a blast! I need to remind myself of this note the next time I leave my in-laws with our kids. I’ve been told (by many) that they never read the notes anyway.

It sort of says it all!
