i think i’m my kid’s personal assistant
So very very early one morning, Miss Summer appears at my bedside.
“Can you help me go to the potty?” she asks.
“Ok honey,” I say groggily as I propel myself out of bed and onto the cold wooden floor.
I follow her into the bathroom and then try to help her onto to the toilet.
“I want to do it myself!” she insists.
Okay.
Then I try to wipe her.
“I want to do it myself!!” she adamantly proclaims.
Right. Got it.
And then I try to help her pull up her pajamas.
“I WANT TO DO IT MYSELF!!!”
“Summer, honey, why exactly am I here?” I ask.
“I need you to tuck me back in to bed.”
Ahh… I see.
So that’s what I did.

Brilliantly beautiful.

Isn’t that the truth. I’m glad I’m not the only Mommy adding “personal assistant” to my resume. xx

That reminds me of my twin daughters aged 12 in the morning. They are early birds and me NOT so much. I get up at 7.30 when they have finished showering, dressing and sometimes have made their lunch.
I am still expected to stumble around the kitchen making breakfast and making sure their hair is done and lunches sufficient. I am thinking another couple years and my morning job will be redundant and phased out. All good
They will be independent and I will have the luxury of enriching my career. The end of my personal assistant days!

Oh, that’s classic! And so preferable to “Mom, I need you to change my sheets!”

I think there’s also a certain need for acknowledgement there. My son still feels the need to come and tell me first before he can pee.

she’s so sweet. i wish i was needed like that anymore…sigh.

Ava and I have this running joke where she tells me what she needs me for. The big one on the list was “help me go to the bathroom.” The other day, we were at a restaurant and Ava gets up and walks away from the table. When I asked her where she was going, she said to the bathroom. After making sure she could open, lock and re-open the door I left her there. After she came back I said, “So, Ava, I guess you don’t need me to help you go to the bathroom. What do you need me for now?” she thought and said, “money.”

Aww so cute. Thank goodness she wanted to go back to bed and not to play!

Ha! The ‘myself’ phase may just kill me. I can’t help with anything without asking permission or I am met with screaching! Brutal

Oh boy and am I ever there with you! Though, my job duty is turning on the light and standing outside the bathroom in the hallway to wait for him!

Adorable…

At least you now know what you’re useful for!

I think that we’re all personal assistants until they reach puberty, then we’re the ones who ruin their lives because we expect them to follow our rules…isn’t there a potion or something that will keep them manageable?

well, a personal assistant isn’t a bad thing. At least- for a little over a decade- you have job security.
[Reply]
at least she went back to sleep! Were you able to?

Too sweet. They are growing up but still need us.

She has the sweetest little mouth when she’s sleeping. You’re a good mom.

I’m jealous.
My kids will be in pullups until they’re 47.
And still sometimes wet the bed.

Did Miss Summer authorize your taking the photo? Because I’d hate to see you lose your job over this.

she is such a doll.

She is just yummy.
That shot of her made me smile.

When you’re finished wiping her, you will be the ‘personal assistant’ of your mother…and her tushy won’t be as cute as Summers.

Awwww!!

I thank God everyday Phoebe is six and no longer makes those requests.

OMG – I am telling you her and Hailey are soul sisters…I swear! If you lived closer we could trade for a night and never know the difference!

So cute…I wish it went that smoothly in my house;)

My son frequently asks for “comfort” in the bathroom, at bedtime, etc. etc. Turns out he means “COMPANY.”

I’m glad to see that my great niece Ava is in training to be a Golddigger.

She is sooo cute! Summer seems very efficient in the bathroom. Somehow Alyssa spends an awful lot of time just hanging out on the potty talking about how she has to go. Great post!!

Oh, and I am glad that you have some job security!
