There are always news stories about breastfeeding moms. This one did it at a restaurant. Another woman did it at her graduation. And yet another one on a park bench. These moms are feeding their babies everywhere!! With their breasts!

My biggest breastfeeding feat was doing it while grocery shopping. Yes, my husband might have an Emmy but I’ve got something far more valuable – the memory of feeding a wailing baby in a Bjorn while buying taco fixins at the local grocery store.

I’ve nursed babies on airplanes, in crowded waiting rooms and on the sides of highways. But I’ve never actually nursed a baby while on the toilet…

So props to Elisha Wilson Beach. She’s the wife of TV actor Michael Beach.

She posted the photo on Instagram with the caption, “This is motherhood and it ain’t always pretty.”

Honestly, I don’t even think that kid was hungry. I think she just wanted to keep the toddler from completely destroying her bathroom.

Some people are of course outraged because it seems unsanitary. But let’s remember that toddlers eat stuff they find off the floor at the local play gym and isn’t that way more gross?

And it’s true. Motherhood is messy and imperfect and not always pretty.

Good for her! I prefer this pic to the one of giselle BF while getting her hair blown out by one person, make up applied by another and wearing a silk robe or something…I know it was her job but still…pants down on the toilet is more real life to me. I have BF my kids sitting on the toilet.

    But that IS pretty!

I have done it on the toilet… Nursing a baby in one arm, and on the other knee a wailing toddler. I do remember thinking at the time that this was getting a bit ridiculous.

I wonder if those that find this picture unsanitary are concerned about mothers who are expected to nurse their babies in public restrooms or pump milk in the restroom at work.

Motherhood is not perfect and it is messy. Kids need their mom, no matter where she is.

I love the photo, also! It perfectly encapsulates motherhood – the multitasking, the constant invasion of privacy and personal space, and the realization that while the interruptions are annoying they are also the wonderful chaos that is spending time with the cute little people that you love so much.

This is what life is all about…along with the screaming vomiting baby at 3 am and deciding whose turn it is etc.

My mind was like, “what is this!?” Then I told myself to think first. My gender is not female and I’m not a parent so I may never I understand.
Unusual for my eyes but cute.
