So not long ago, I was chatting with Wendi Aarons about health care policy. And by “chatting,” I mean email because honestly, who talks to anyone anymore. And by “health care policy” I mean the TV show “Friday Night Lights” which I’ve been obsessively watching on DVD.

And Wendi and I both agreed incredibly quickly that we would dump our husbands for Coach Taylor.

If you’ve never seen the show (and the new season is only on DirecTV right now – you have to wait until summer to see it on NBC), this is Coach Taylor….

Cute, right?

And he’s not all eye candy, ladies. He’s a sweet husband, a loving dad and fabulous football coach. Not that I really understand anything about football but you don’t get the Dillon Panthers to “State” without knowing a few things.ย  Am I right, Texas?

Anyway, I felt sort of guilty about my passion for Coach Taylor, so I decided to fess up to Rick.

“Honey, do you worry that I’ll leave you for Coach Taylor?” I ask.

“No,” Rick responds.

“Why not?” I ask wondering if my husband is taking me for granted.

“Mostly because he’s a fictional character.”

Oh right. Excellent point.

“Well, let’s say Coach Taylor was real (and in my heart I believe he’s real) and I run off with him, what would you do?”

And at this point in the conversation, I give my husband a lot of credit for even answering.

“I would settle down with his TV wife Tami Taylor. I really like her. She’s very pretty.”

Hmm…. I wonder what he likes so much about her.

So apparently, it would all work out perfectly.

What would you do if we were walking down the street and I turned into a cat? See, you answered my questions so Rick has to answer yours What goes around comes around ( :

Oh my, he is handsome. A friend here in TX was an extra on FNL — I’ll have to find out the scoop on Coach Taylor. And since Eric in San Fran all week, leaving me here to shuttle two kids to two different schools, I’m going to start watching…

This is one of my all time favorite shows. If you want to come visit me & Jen, I can show you all there filming locations! ๐Ÿ™‚

I think you both better looking than either of them, and “maybe even” better people/parents in real life situations that aren’t scripted for you ๐Ÿ˜‰
    Get over the coach!

He was also in an episode of Grey’s. He was the bomb squad guy who “coached” Meredith through the removal of the bomb that was in someone’s chest cavity. It was kind of sad when he blew up at the end of the episode. BTW, love FNL… but Riggins is more my style. The hot slacker with dirty hair just gets me.

Yes, the ‘fake’ wife has FAKE TITS….and only ‘men’ like them. Women don’t like them, but buy them to attract men who have no need for real tits….just TITS.

My hubby, who is a football coach, and I LOVE this show. It’s our favorite thing we watch together (and this one actually has a plot). I think it’s so great because no one seems to be acting at all. I’m bummed that it’s not back until summer. I really enjoy your blog and your spin on things. Keep it up.

I have to set those commenters straight! Tami Taylor AKA Connie Britton has 100% real boobs!!! They are just pushed up in that pic. Part of what makes the show the greatest thing to ever go over airwaves is that Tami is all real. They show her sun damaged skin and in the past she had a little bit of a belly and you can see that the boobs sag a bit. And she is even sexier like that!
I am with Wendi–love you but would knock your teeth out in a fight for Coach Taylor! Except I don’t think the coach would approve of such behavior!!!

My brother got my husband and I hooked on Friday Night Lights and to say waiting for it to come on NBC is killing us would be an understatement.

And hey, at least your husband would settle down with Tami instead of Tyra. =)

As a Texan, I must tell you something: while Coach T is supa hawt, the show is based on Permian HS. (my dad played football for them) and Permian is in Odessa. And Odessa is the sticks. Soooo, you and Coach T would live in the sticks. But you know what you do when there isn’t anything else left to do, right?

    Right. You watch TV.

  • As I was reading this, my daugher Eleanor stood by my side talking at me (the general state of affairs around here) about how sick she is. But she was able to snap out of her hypochondria for a minute and ask “mommy is that you?” of the last picture. No idea what to make of that…
