My husband and I don’t always agree on art.
Like Rick loves this Van Gogh reproduction we once bought.
I don’t love it. I don’t know why I agreed to it. I can only imagine that I was tired of looking for art for our first apartment and said something like, “Fine. Buy the Van Gogh floral thingy. I don’t care anymore. I’m dehydrated. I’m starving. I feel weak. Just buy it!”
I have never had the highest of artistic standards. In my 20’s, my bestfriend and I stapled a cheetah print cloth from a Halloween costume to our wall and called it art. But now I’m just a wee bit older than 24 and I only want to hang things I truly love.
Since I won’t hang the Van Gogh and Rick won’t get rid of it, it’s just propped up on this dresser.
A floral reminder that marriage is all about standoffs. I mean, compromise.
But I just learned about a much easier way for Rick and I to pick art for our new home.Β Art that we both love. It’s called ARTtwo50 and it’s ridiculously easy and brilliant.
You download the free app on your iPad and take a photo of the wall space where you hope to hang some amazing piece of art. I took a photo of my bedroom and first chose the size of the artwork…
Then I was able to shop by artist or just swipe through their recommendations. And you get to see every piece as if it was hanging in your home. Look…
Isn’t that cool? Then I can email any of these images to a friend or post on Facebook before I buy and get feedback. That’s right. Your ex-boyfriend from 5th grade can weigh in on artwork for your current home. I love this world.
All the artwork is $250 so you don’t have to worry about falling in love with a $5,000 painting, plus free shipping and returns. Plus, it’s all original artwork so it’s a great way to support artists.
Because it would be cruel to tell you about this amazing app and then not offer you a chance to win some sort of gift certificate, the good people at ARTtwo50 are offering two $100 gift certificates. Yay!
To enter, just leave a comment mentioning the word art. And please also remember to like ARTtwo50 and The Mama Bird Diaries on Facebook so that you are officially entered. Good luck.
This is a sponsored post. All ideas are my own.
Very cool idea. It looks like they give you a lot of art options to choose from.
I have an ART degree and still can’t find anything to hang in my living room. Pick me, Pick Me!!! π
What a great idea! I love art!
I think the third piece of art is upside down…
I also really like this site for art, original etc and varying in price — http://www.20×200.com.
This is actually a really good idea. Currently, the only art my husband & I have up in our house are some misguided crayon scribbles from our shorter roommates. We keep telling them to keep their creative musings on paper, but I guess you just can’t reason with artists.
I love this. It is brilliant. I have a similar program to show people how photographs will look in their home! I need new ART for my bedroom too. I can’t wait to check it out.
Maybe if the Van Gogh “fell” off the dresser, the kids could take care of it…..
I love this way of buying art and supporting new talent. Though I do have to say, the first art I actually bought for my place was a canvas reproduction of the same van gogh piece…
You should live with Rick!! It’s actually very pretty but just not my style.
What a great way to find art that really works in your home! Thanks!
genius!
You forgot to mention the Xmas lights! That’s what completed the art!!
I think you need three smaller pieces of art in that space instead of one big one.
Art!
Seriously, I love Beach Day. The color is striking, and the art fits the room well.
Art is a compromise. We moved into a new house three years ago and have hardly hung a picture because we simply can not agree.
All of my favorite pieces of art either hanging on the walls of my apartment or waiting to be rotated with those that are. I guess this is one of the few benefits of staying single. At least that’s what I tell myself.
We are in dire need of this app. And some art. Thanks
Love this. Definitely need some art for our living room.
People come up with such great ideas, and who doesn’t need help choosing art? Thanks!
Oh new painting, where ART thou?
Thanks for sharing…I need this app! Almost 8 years in our house and still trying to find the perfect piece of art for over our bed, this will help big time!
Art at our house consists of widespread panic posters, to support my husbands manic obsession with the band.
and i LOVE that it is all original art / supporting artists, so cool!
You won one of the $100 gift certificates!!! Email me at kelcey@mamabirddiaries.com. Thanks!!
AND…I see ARTtwo50 has FREE shipping AND returns, My two favorite things! OK, I’m done now! This is the most I have ever commented on anything. ever.
Some wise person once said, “Art is a dirty job, but somebody’s got to do it.” I agree.
Great Idea…love the last one the best – the orange one. Love the free shipping and free returns option on ARTtwo50…that always is a deciding factor for me.
What a smart way to find art! My walls are sadly bare, except for my kids’ art (which I personally love the best!)
My hubby and I have had a similar art selection standoff. I really like the options ARTtwo50 has to offer. The Van Gogh is cool though!
That’s a very interesting concept for selling original art. My husband is a painter; I’ll have to check it out for him. As to the Van Gogh, I don’t mind the painting as much as the frame. Maybe you would like it better in a different frame, or even paint the existing one. If it’s matted you could probably paint the mat too. Or hang it in Rick’s closet! lol
My house is sadly lacking in any type of art – I’ll take your Van Gogh flowery thingy and give you my Kill Bill framed poster. No, but for real.
Ahh, art. I love it. My husband loves it. Our tastes are so very different!
I just bought a new house and definitely need some art!!
What a great idea for those of us who get overwhelmed at stores & finally give in with a “Go ahead and buy it” lol
Oh how I love technology! Very cool app, and a great way to support artists. My husband says who needs art when we have kids?
This is a great way to find art for your home and know it will be perfect before you buy it. That’s what always stops me from purchasing artwork.
I am no interior decorator nor do I have an eye for art, I do however, love checking out all types of art that I can find that would add a little “umph” to the walls in my house. I would love nothing more than to purchase a really pretty, not too overwhelming, piece of art to hang on the wall that would make me either smile every time I looked at it or let out a big sigh of “oh, this crap of a day shall pass.”
What a great idea! We have a new house and desperately need some grown-up art!
So in need of art!!!
What a great way to buy art! But what’s with the made bed?!
That’s such a neat way to envision the artwork in your home. I agree with Marinka and think I’ll have to take a picture to see what the art looks like with an unmade bed which is more realistic for me π
Don’t forget that you have an aunt who is an artist. And everything is always for sale. Check out my website!
That’s really cool! I love original art. And reproductions – yuck – you’re right. Get rid of Van Gogh, Rick.
What a fantastic idea for helping people like me (or us, it sounds like!) be able to actually see the art in a space and know if we’ll like it or not, without the commitment at the store! I’ll have to get busy taking some pictures of our sad, bare walls and get some art in here!
This is the coolest thing I’ve seen in a long time! (We have a piece of art propped up on our dresser too…. Its a good compromise. π
Very clever app. Why didn’t I think of that? Same reason I haven’t thought of any apps that are actually real! Are the app designers/owners friends of yours and Rick’s? C’mon, who are these ART lovers?! There’s my contribution to enter : ) … X
LOVE this app! I am looking for new a new piece of art for my bedroom and have been scouring Etsy for months to no avail. I will definitely give this app a try. Great recommendation.
I thought we were grown ups once I bought poster frames for all the posters. Turns out that not having posters is more grown up. We’re still working on that.
I am not great at ART but I love to have ART on my walls. My college roommate married a guy named ART.
Anna – You won one of the $100 gift certificates!!! Email me at kelcey@mamabirddiaries.com. xo
I could use some new wall art!
That’s cool! I thought your made bed was art at first. I’m not sure I remember the last time ours was made. We don’t have art up either. Go art!
I’ve discovered that art is like a fungus. Wait long enough and it may start to grow on you.
I have nothing on my walls. They desperately need art on them! Only…. I never know what to buy. And I’m cheap. Please help me. π
We need new art around here too~!
I need art in my new house!
Gosh, I’m not a decorator or designer or famous (just not famous!) artist, but if you will allow my humble opinion on your bedroom art; your windows are square and unadorned, your headboard is square and plain, and the space you are trying to put art in is also square. Then, you keep adding square art, either too large or too small. May I suggest you hang something dimensional, sculptural, softer in design, at least not square. Well, anyway, I find your blog interesting and I’ll be back. π
