A few months ago, my father and I were talking about the material objects in our lives that we couldn’t live without. He has an old leather briefcase that has been with him through many years of teaching and travels. It’s pretty beat up now but it has the weathered look of a possession that has been truly loved.

My favorite possession is my perfume. I put it on every day and can always count on the sparkling, citrusy fragrance to lighten my mood and make me feel pretty. On days when I am trapped in my “mama” persona it’s the only thing that transforms me back into a woman.

beauty-diary-perfume.jpgI wear Ananas Fizz by a French company called L’Artisan Parfumeur. In a world where perfumes like Midnight Fantasy by Britney Spears hit the market every other week, L’Artisan Parfumeur fragrances stand out because of the company’s dedication to the craft of blending essential oils – an art that began with the creation of fragrances for the French aristocracy. They create unusual, sophisticated scents inspired by nature and use very high-end raw ingredients (so that sandalwood really smells like sandalwood). The best thing about L’Artisan Parfumeur is when you shop with them online or at a boutique you can search for a fragrance by scent family or by mood, such as “Floral Bouquets” or “Warmth and Pleasure.”

L’Artisan Parfumeur doesn’t stop at perfume. They make body creams, candles and home fragrances as well. They will even send a fragrance expert to your house to help you develop a custom scent for everything from your “kitchen to your boudoir.” And for all of those fragrance fanatics out there, you can also have a L’Artisan Parfumeur scent party where your guests can sniff and savor the raw ingredients while learning about the difference between top and base notes. Champagne and chocolates are served, of course!

You can explore L’artisan Parfumeur scents online. You, too, might just find one you can’t live without.
