Each year, around the holidays, the cosmetics industry pumps out tons of cheesy gift sets filled with items nobody really wants. I’m convinced it’s all the stuff that’s just leftover in their warehouse. Truly, would you ever give a friend the gift of sparkling white eye shadow, black liquid eye liner and fake eyelashes, aka The Disco Holiday Princess Collection? Is there anyone, other than a melodramatic teenager, for whom this set would be appropriate? I don’t think so.

But finally, one company has figured out how to really do a holiday gift set: E.L.F. Cosmetics. They’ve combined 50 items in a holiday grab box that will satisfy every mama’s makeup dreams. For $50 ($1 per item) you’ll get mascaras, nail polishes, eyeliners, eye shadows, lip glosses, powders, concealers, blushes, brushes and more. More stuff than you could ever cram in a stocking.

The colors are totally wearable, completely modern and beautifully sophisticated without being overly trendy. Plus, the set includes everything you’ll need to go from bare to beautiful without an instruction manual or a personal makeup artist. I’m definitely adding this set to my Santa wish list. And I would absolutely give it to a friend, our babysitter and, yes, even my teenage niece. Heck, if she were a few months older, I would even buy this set for my one year-old daughter.

E.L.F. is a line of simple, value-priced cosmetics. All of their products cost $1, which means you can try out as many colors and “looks” as you want without making a big investment. I use their lip glosses and can honestly say that every time I apply a layer of Super Glossy Lip Shine in Candlelight I feel like it was the best dollar I ever spent. You can find it all right here.
