Each day, I have two simple beauty goals: basic cleanliness (via a 10 minute shower) and to get out of the house without looking like I just got off the red-eye from
Highlighting or light reflecting concealers illuminate key areas of the face to create a bright, flawless complexion. Tiny light reflecting particles, such as mica, disguise flaws by reflecting light away from them and open up the face by creating brightness around areas that have become dulled by time, age and lack of sleep. When applied to a few strategic spots, they can truly take years off your face and give you that Kate Hudson glow. Who doesn’t want to look like a movie star mama? Sign me up.
How to apply: Always start with your regular moisturizer and foundation before applying concealer. If you have serious bags under your eyes or major discolorations, cover them up first with a regular concealer that has yellow undertones. Then apply a highlighting concealer to the following areas (you never knew a concealer could work this hard):
Under the arch of the brow
Down the bridge of your nose
Around the nostrils
At the corners of the lips
Just above the bow of the lips
Over the tops of the cheekbones
At the inner corners of the eyes
Between the brows
Over fine lines around the eyes, mouth or forehead
Here are a few of my favs:
YSL Touche Eclat ($39.50) – A favorite among makeup artists, I’ve seen it used by the pros at many a photo shoot.
Dior Skinflash Radiance Booster ($33) – This truly lightweight formula can be reapplied throughout the day without looking too heavy.
Bourjois Paris Illuminating Concealer Pen ($15) – Bourjois is owned by Chanel so you can bet that this concealer is very similar to its Chanel counterpart and is available at a much better price.
Avon Beyond Color Radiant Lifting Concealer ($3.99) – The biggest bang for your buck! Normally priced at $7.00 and currently on sale, this concealer has added antioxidants to soothe and protect the skin.
